Though it has gone relatively unnoticed other than reports of [really good battery life] in various China phone reviews, MediaTek’s latest release — MT6763 Helio P23 is a masterpiece and groundbreaking move for the China chip maker.

While MediaTek’s chips powerwise have been more than fine over the last couple years, Qualcomm’s midrange 625 stole a lot of customers in the $150-250 bracket due to its excellent battery life. That has all changed with the release of P23.

cross P20 / P25 right off the list and look only at P23.

I can not iterate enough how huge this SoC is for MTK; we are talking a full 100%+ increase in battery efficiency.

Both Vernee X and Oukitel’s 6000mAh K6 reaching 20+ hours on our 140lux WiFi YouTube 720P video test. Phones with the same battery capacity on MT6757 (P20/25) and MT6750T rarely even hit the 10-hour mark.

A 20% increase in this test would have been big news but a 100% is nearly unbelievable and unheard of in a single generation improvement.

Additionally, I ran PCMark’s 200lux workload battery test which more or less emulates real-life use; using only 25% battery the Oukitel K6 tapped 5 hours 20 minutes — interpolated to 100% this gives us 21+ hours.

Some phones remain at 100% for the first 20 minutes of a test. So, to err on the side of underestimating as opposed to overestimating we will call 100% 20 hours.

25% Oukitel K6 200LUX PCMARK BATTERY TEST

I can’t remember the last time I was this shocked by a development in SoC tech. MediaTek has finally come to be a true competitor for the Snap 625.

It also means that if you plan on spending $200+ you can forget about buying any P20 / P25 phone. Just cross P20 / P25 right off the list and look only at P23.

Both the Vernee X and Oukitel K6 have been tested. Both can be bought with confidence.

I’ve also just began testing the Oukitel K10. It is essentially a bigger, much better-looking version of the Oukitel K6, and with a much bigger battery.
