Some of us have known that the new quad-core MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will be coming out.  Well, now we have news as to when we can start to see these CPUs released to manufacturers.  Looks testing on sample machines has already been completed successfully and we should start to see these CPUs in phones as early as Q4 this year!  If you’re thinking about getting a new phone with dual-core mtk mt6577 / mtk6577, read on at your own peril, as you may find yourself thinking twice.

The little mentioned MTK mt6583 will also be released along with the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589.  It will be dual-core as opposed to quad, but feature some of the excellent specs of the 6588.

One great thing about both of these CPU’s is they will feature 28nm architecture.  A great step from the current 40nm in the mtk mt6577 / mtk6577.   What’s that mean?  It means you’ll get better performance on less power, so battery life will be significantly increased!  This is great, because as current smartphone users know, one of the issues with many of them is they love to eat up battery life.  The 28nm architecture of the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will take a big step towards helping out with extending our play time.

Some key points:

  • MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will support up to 13mp camera .
  • MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will support 1080p video recording and decoding.
  • MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will officially support 720p 1280×800 display.
  • MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will have the SGX 544 GPU!

I will be discussing these points in my next post coming within the next few hours.
