13887137368Recently we received the Hero Star H9008 MT6592. We decided to review this phone because of quad-band WCDMA inclusion.

We’re surprised this gem hasn’t garnered more attention, but at least some of you out there can understand our excitement over a phone with quad-band WCDMA. I haven’t lived in America for over 7 years, but I still am giddy over this new phone released by Mlais and Hero / Star. This is truly a ‘day’ that will go down in China brand history. The first MTK China brand with quad-band WCDMA. It doesn’t hurt that the H9008 is well built and solid, with a crisp, bright LCD, very strong WiFi, and quick GPS.

H9008 Specification Overview

  • CPU: MT6592 8-Core
  • GPU: Mali-450 MP4
  • RAM: 2GB
  • ROM/Storage: 16GB
  • WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro LCD

The LCD can be classified as very good. The viewing angles are excellent, with colors remaining true even at extreme angles from all sides. Brightness is excellent as well. Crisp and clear and can be viewed in direct sunlight.

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro WiFi

WiFi signal strength is very strong. Perhaps some of the strongest I’ve seen in a smartphone. Files transfer quick and without issue. There have been no ‘signal breaks’.

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro GPS

Cold locks happened very quickly. Even indoors within a concrete and brick house, the GPS signal was strong and true and the lock happened within seconds. We still have yet to test a cold lock with WiFi and radios off, but will have that in the next review installment.

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro build, looks, design

The build on the H9008 is very solid. It has some slight heft to it and doesn’t feel cheap at all. The one exception is the plastic trim, which is standard even for $800 Samsungs. The buttons were firm and feel no different than the buttons on Samsung Note 3. The physical home button is not something I care for. I much prefer a capacitive home button, but this is the same design as the Note 3 and they can’t be faulted for it. Especially if it’s something you’re used to, this is a non-issue when considering the phone for purchase.

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro mic and earpiece

The earpiece and mic on this phone are very good. I was just in the back of an open air pickup truck taxi and heard the other person loud and clear. When inquiring about our own sound, the person on the other end said we sounded loud and clear as well.

Review H9008 / Mlais MX69T Pro External Speaker

While not exceptional, the H9008 external speaker was plenty loud enough for filling a room with music or watching movies. There were no issues when watching a movie trying to hear the voices on screen, even with a fan going in the background.

First Impression Conclusions

Really the standout feature of this phone, again is the quad-band WCDMA. Anyone looking for a large-screened smart phone that is interested in having world-wide 3G capabilities, and especially Americans, should take a strong look at purchasing the H9008. It will give AT&T and T-Mobile 3G support across the country, and any countries that require 900MHz or 1900MHz WCDMA will have that support as well.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Mlais MX69T has been coming out with regular official firmware updates which are 100% compatible with the H9008.
