Just this month Google released their Google Camera on the play store. The good news is that we will no longer have to wait for OS changes to get the upgrades and changes Google implements. The bad news is that it is for KitKat devices only.

I recently took the iNew V8 for a test install of Google Camera and it found it on Play and installed no problem.

One of most touted features of the new Google Camera app is the ability to get extreme DSLR like bokeh. Bokeh may be described in different ways, but to put it simply, bokeh is blur. When used properly it can present spectacular pictures that pull the eye to the intended subject.

Wikipedia describes it thusly:

Boke (derived from Japanese) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light”. Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting—”good” and “bad” bokeh,

Here are my first results with Google Camera and the iNew V8. The bokeh is set to standard, but with a slider it can be adjusted so that there is none at all, or extreme bokeh. In addition, the focus point can be changed after the picture has been taken and rendered.

There are several interesting points here. First and foremost is that it appears iNew has truly come good with KitKat on the iNew V8. If you have not read the review, I encourage you to do so as the iNew V8 is an intriguing phone.

The other interesting point is the release of Google Camera on Play and the newly added bokeh feature. Obviously this is a bit of a silly shot, but it does show there is some potential.

There are other software methods and apps that can induce bokeh, but none of them match the ease with which this was rendered. You simply set the focus point as you would for a normal shot, tap the photo button and then when instructed, slowly move the phone up for about two seconds while keeping the subject centered.

You can get the iNew V8 now at Gearbest. With coupon code ‘chinaphonearena’ you will receive a 10% discount off the phone.

I will be experimenting on a more worthy subject (sorry Kermit) in the coming days.
