Came across this excellent software for rooting almost any Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone.
First you will need to install the PDAnet ADB drivers to root your MTK6589, MTK6592, MTK6582, MTK6732, MTK6752, MTK6575 and MTK6577 phone. PDAnet ADB Drivers
NOTE: We now have an updated thread on how to create TWRP custom recovery for the newer SoC China phones such as MT6735 MT6753, MT6755. This method does not require root. Please see the thread linked here. If you’ve got an older phone with MT65xx type SoC, you can continue on with this post.
The JiaYu G2S has been successfully rooted with this method, so we do know that it will work with at least some MTK China phones.

… Luckily most of us won’t be buying smartphones for less than $100 :D . Already the JiaYu G2S has successfully been rooted with this method. Hopefully, together we can seek out and aggregate the ADB drivers. EDIT: Please see this link for generic PDAnet ADB drivers which seem to be working successfully with many phones.

Is there any other USB driver for the UMI X!?

Hello Pedrito, I assume you’re pulling the menu down in the phone and selecting “USB Transfer mode” after plugging in. Also, the ADB drivers shouldn’t be required just to access the SD and memory.

I rooted and installed the feb 3/2013 UMI X1 rom ok. Good ROM! Also reallocated the internal SD memory to 1.5gb so I have more space for apps.
However: I lost the GPS hardware icon @ top regardless if it’s turned on or not, and any gps app now doesn’t see my GPS any longer. Restoring didn’t rectify the issue. How can I recover from this? Help!

Drivers in general just to connect your Chinese smart? phone to your PC is near impossible, for me at least none of them that are meant to work do! So I have a phone that won’t connect to my PC. I won’t buy another Chinese phone again but a brand name phone. Samsung are known to have some driver issues and connectivity issues so brand name phones are not necessarily free from their problems either.
My old Sony Xperia X10 always connects without needing to download anything, Microsoft finds the correct dirvers right away and I am able to connect as USB mass storage, as SEMC drivers are installed via windows driver update online automatically. If manufacturers complied with driver standards that Microsoft fully support as well, then there would be no problems for Windows users with any device, not just mobiles.
I think it is best Chinese manufacturers have at the minimum the available option of offering to buyers a rooted phone and maybe a small amount of none rooted ones labeled as such for those that don’t want it, since they cannot and will not ever provide any support for their products.
