Slated for release in 2013, ZTE has already began designing a smartphone around an 8-core CPU. Codenamed “Apache”, the likely CPU to be used is MTK MT6599 / MTK6599.

MTK MT6599 / MTK6599 is an exciting chip as it brings the ability to host 13mp cameras, as well as full official support for HD 1280*800 resolution LCDs and onboard LTE 4G.

MTK MT6599 / MTK6599 is rumored to be released as early as May of 2013. If that proves to be true, it will give MedaTek an excellent jump on competition.
