honor-3c-mtk6592Huawei is one of the better known Chinese smartphone brands. They are even offered as ‘plan phones’ by some of the major network providers in the US. Generally they use Qualcomm CPUs, however this is about to change with the Huawei Honor Glory 3C and Huawei Honor Glory 3X.

The Huawei Honor Glory 3C is their budget version with the MT6582. It will have a 5.0″ OGS LCD @ 720p. Battery will be 2300mA. The front camera will be 5mp F2.8 aperture with support for 88-degree wide-angle shots. The rear camera will be Sony F2.0 aperture and support 4cm macro pictures.

There will be 1GB and 2GB versions available, and will come in TD+G (TD-SCDMA + GSM) and W+G (WCDMA + GSM) versions as well. A big bonus is dual-mic noise reduction.

The Huawei Honor Glory 3x will be their flagship MTK phone. It will have MT6592 [email protected]. 2GB RAM. The LCD will be a two steps larger than the 3C at 5.5″, though resolution remains the same at 720p.

The front facing, wide-angle support camera will be 5mp, and the rear will be Sony 13mp. The Glory 3X battery will be 3000mA capacity. Like the 3C, the 3X will also have dual-mic noise reduction.

The price is the kicker here with both these phones. The Huawei Honor Glory 3C will retail for 798 yuan for the 1GB RAM version and 998 for the 2GB version. The Huawei Honor Glory 3X will sell for 1698 yuan.

There are a couple of interesting things to note here. The 3C may very well be the first MTK6582 phone to have 2GB RAM. A Huawei phone with 2GB RAM for < $200 is a great bargain.

The other thing to note is that both phones are 720p. Performance wise this is a nice bonus. On a 5.0″ LCD, it should still be very crisp and most people will have a difficult time telling the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 5.0″ LCD. The 5.5″ on the 3X also is at 720p, which may be borderline for some picky users, but for me it’s no issue. As well, the Mali-450 MP4 with the MTK6592 should blaze games at 720p.

There is a lot of competition in the MT6582 game – such as the cheaper MX28 and Voto V5 Youth, the excellent looking iNew V3, and the recently previewed Amoi A900W.

We’ll be keeping a hard eye on these two phones. Huawei has a great name in the China brand market and them starting to come out with Mediatek solutions is an interesting change in the game. We’re still wondering what will happen when Qualcomm’s new SoC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 hits the shelves in mid-2014. Mediatek will need to come up with some nice magic to stay ahead in the budget game.
