iocean-x7-1iOcean exploded on the China phone scene a year or so back with the X7. A slick, square phone with it’s own unique look that included nice specs at the right price. It became popular very quickly.

Fast forward into 8-core/octa-core MT6592 land, and we’re looking at what’s dubbed the ‘European’ iOcean X7S Elite.

The design has remained the same. However, the iOcean X7 will now include MTK6592. The RAM will be 2GB and ROM storage will be 16GB. Camera will be F2.2 aperture 13mp rear and 5mp front.

Same as before, the iOcean X7s will come standard with a 2000mA battery. There will also be a 3000mA battery option that fattens the phone but gives you a huge boost in battery juice.

We really like that iOcean designed the X7 so that it has two options for battery. 2000mA if you like slimmer and don’t necessarily need the extra battery power, and 3000mA for those who don’t mind fattening the phone or require some substantial extra battery. It would be great if more China brands caught onto this smart move by iOcean. Particularly iNew with their iNew V3.

What we don’t like is the move from 850MHz to 900MHz. The iOcean X7S MTK6592 will be 900MHz/2100MHz as opposed to 850MHz/2100MHz. Europeans may love the move, but from a business stand point, it’s downright silly as Europeans already have 2100MHz available in most areas. iOcean has essentially cut off their foot by making it not compatible with any American 3G. Remember that includes 90% of the AmericaS. Not just USA. We’re talking 40% of the world the iOcean X7s will be useless with 3G. If you’re a European who travels or live in the AmericaS, except for a couple of select countries, the 3G will be useless.

The iOcean X7s Elite also includes OTG – a great move by iOcean, as well as gyroscope. The phone went on pre-sale on the 13th, so should be available for shipping within the next month or so. Retail price in China is 1399 Yuan.

The European iOcean X7 HD with MT6582 is available now.
