thl_w200cThe THL T200C is a 720p MT6592 2GB/16GB 6.0″ LCD monster. After a bit of time with the THL T200C, we have a very solid feel for the phone.

THL T200C physical build and feel

While I’m not a fan of the very obvious plastic silver trim running around the phone, the rest of the phone is a joy to hold. The phone has a very nice heft to it.

The back piece feels almost like some sort of carbon fiber. The THL W200S back shunned fingerprints, but not like this. Ridiculous that after 2 days of use, the back of the THL T200C literally looks like it just came out of the package with absolute zero finger prints or any type of marks at all.

The back piece snaps perfectly and snugly onto the phone and leaves no gaps. The USB plugs in firmly. The volume buttons and power buttons can be felt to click when pressing them.

Inside the phone doesn’t slouch either. The first thing noticed is the giant matte battery with no writing on the front side. The rest of the inside is classy matte and has a slight texture. Like the back piece, the inside also refuses to accept fingerprints.

All around a very solid phone. There’s absolutely no difference in terms of physical build quality between this and an $800 Note 3.

THL T200C LCD

The T200C LCD is 720p. While it’s not near retina, it’s pleasant enough to the eyes. In the phones we’ve tested this month, the benefits of 720p over 1080p with the MT6592 in regards to battery life have been impressive. However the degree to which our results were due to the particular models we tested is unknown. At this point we’ll call it a correlation and add in a bit of logic to the assumption.

The LCD from extreme angles at the tops, bottoms and sides retains it’s color and contrast very well. From the corners at relatively extreme angles there is a tinting that happens. Depending on the corner you look at it from, the tinting is orange or blue. While the idea of this may be a detractor, in practical use, nobody looks at their phone from an extreme diagonal angle. You can see exactly what I’m talking about in the video review.

The brightness of the T200C LCD was very good and the phone could be used in sunlight without a problem. Also the brightness was even over the entire mega-screen with no greying.

The auto-brightness is responsive and worked well for the different lightning situations we were in.

THL T200C battery

In short, the battery lasted us 7+ hours on screen. An excellent result for a 2500mA battery on a 6.0″ phone. You can see all the details of that test here.

THL T200C WiFi

The WiFi signal strength on the THL T200C can be classified as average. Like the W200S, the T200C could benefit from a slightly stronger WiFi reception. For our uses it was fine, but users who will be using the T200C regularly very far from the router may find this an issue.

Internet remained connected and we never experienced any connection loses.

THL T200C external speaker, mic, earpiece

The external speaker can be classified as slightly above average. It filled the room, but lacked any sort of oomph. The smaller W200S actually had a noticeably louder speaker. This could possibly be adjusted in engineering settings of the THL T200C. Regardless, it’s about average for China phones and fine for watching a movie or streaming tunes.

The microphone was very good. We had no issues with parties on the other side hearing us loud and clear.

The earpiece was a treat and can be classified as excellent. The party on the other side was very loud and clear. I had to turn the earpiece volume down to 50% because the sound was just that loud.

THL T200C OTG

OTG worked great out of the box. We tested a mouse and keyboard and they both connected easily and quickly with no extra messing about required.

THL T200C GPS

The GPS on the T200C was excellent. We received a cold lock in airplane mode in under a minute. The warm lock was within seconds.

THL T200C Performance

Like the W200S, the firmware on the T200C is extremely smooth and stable. There were no shutdowns that some MediaTek devices are known for. There were no errors, bugs or forced closes that we’ve come across as of yet.

Touch was perfect. There were no finicky touch issues as with the Zopo ZP980+. Typing and sliding went off without a hitch.

The THL T200C Antutu score was a standard result for MT6592. We’d hoped for a somewhat higher score given the phone is 720p, but whether this is due to an underclocked GPU or lack of GPU firmware optimization is unknown. Regardless, the result shows the phone is easily power enough to push the latest 3D games, and navigating Android was like butter.

THL T200C conclusion

This phone is a big winner. The excellent onscreen battery use, super solid build quality, strong GPS, excellent earpiece and very stable Android OS well overshadow the average external speaker and WiFi.
