MediaTek’s most recent update is a 4G LTE chip with 64-bit architecture implemented, but more significantly, it supports a full range of network connectivity. The chipset has been designated as MT6735, with a corresponding low-end version, MT6735M.

MTK

The standard version will employ a 4-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, clocked at 1.3GHz to 1.5GHz. If it is built similarly to the MT6732, the GPU will most probably be the high-end Mali T760 as well. The MT6735 will be capable of supporting 720p screens, 1080p codec, and cameras with resolution specs of up to 13MP. The low end version’s CPU will be the same, but will only be clocked at 1GHz, qHD screen support, 1080p codec also, and camera support will be limited to 8MP resolution.

The main attraction

The MT6735 will support LTE CAT4, meaning data rates of 50Mbps upload, and 150Mbps download. The chipset stands out in the network aspect as it is capable of a full range of network connectivity, after being granted approval by VIA Telecom to utilize CDMA2000 architecture with Evolution-Data Optimized standard. Ultimately, network capabilities of the MT6735 (and MT6735M) will encompass FDD-LTE/ TD-LTE/ WCDMA/ TD-SCDMA/ CDMA (1x + EVDO), and GSM.

MT6735 is expected to be in mass production by Q2 of next year, and is being foreseen as a competitor of the Snapdragon 400 and 410 chipsets.
