More news has come in that MTK will be officially launching MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 in Q4 2012 as opposed to early 2013! Looks like the rumors regarding Lenovo’s “Arkansas” and MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 may very well be true!
Reportedly, the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will cost $18-20 – half the price of equivalent Qualcomm CPUs. We should see a lot more of even the big name manufacturer’s start to push away from Qualcomm and going with MTK.
The lower spec dual-core mtk mt6583 / mtk6583 will be released concurrently with MTK MT6589 / MTK6589. The mtk mt6583 / mtk6583 has the same 28nm architecture and SGX544 GPU, but officially only supports up to 854*480, 8mp camera, and 720p decoding/recording. (see MTK CPU graph)
Word is also out that the 8 core mtk mt6599 / mtk6599 will be released in 2013. MTK promises “a big surprise” regarding mtk mt6599 / mtk6599.

It’s amazing, isn’t it, Kethan. They are really out to change the game! If I were Qualcomm, I’d be a bit nervous.

most important things about mediatek chipset is that they support dual sim. qualcomm doesn’t support dual sim in any of its chipset. hope mtk 6588 and 6599 should release with dual sim active function. i have a request can you write a post regarding best chinese phone and also comparing them with each other in terms of build quality, display quality, reliability, durabilty etc….

Hello Ram, I agree one of the big advantages MTK has over Qualcomm is the dual-sim capabilities.
I would love to write a feature as you suggest, but without the phones on hand, I wouldn’t be able to offer comparisons regarding any of the areas you mention.
I’m in the process of working out something with some suppliers regarding advertising, and should have some hands-on reviews coming soon. Cheers.
