Rather than saving it for last, since Little Steph was here to play with the phone, we decided to get the THL W200S battery test out of the way. While we were busy doing other stuff, Little Steph played Facebook, watched video clips and made a half hour Facebook audio phone call (screen off during call).
The battery test was a total of 17.5 hours from the time the phone was disconnected from the charger, to the time the phone was put back on the charger. During that time the WiFi was on the entire time. The SIM radios were on, but no SIMs were inserted during the test.
In our previous posts about the THL W200S, we were hoping for at least 5 hours. This phone went way over, giving us nearly 6.5 hours on-screen by the time we got to 8%. We normally don’t run our batteries down below 8%, but it’s important to note the battery was still running down smoothly and slowly, and likely we could have gotten at least another half hour before Android forced shut down.
Speaking of smoothly, in contrast to many China phones and even name brand phones such as Samsung, Android showed the THL W200S battery run down extremely evenly and smoothly. For example, we didn’t notice any spots where the battery got stuck on one % point for half an hour, or where the battery lost the first 10% in 3 minutes.
Both the 1st and 2nd charge were done through the phone, not through an external charger. We mapped the 2nd charge and found the slope % wise was even and smooth all the way to 100%.
Overall we’re extremely satisfied with the general use battery performance of the MT6592 THL W200S.
Within the next day or two, we will have a more detailed review covering some of the major functions of the THL W200S.

Hi Damian,
Really appreciate your research & advice on these phones.
I have a THL W8Beyond & it is just great BUT the GPS is an absolute failure. It is a w ell documented issue.
I’d like to update to the T200C… But worried about the GPS.
Could you please do a rigorous detailed test of the GPS on this phone so all your followers can benefit from your rev iew.
Thanks again for all your work.

Hi Damian,
Really like your reviews and info.
I recently bought one of these phones and was just wondering if anyone else with a ThL W200S has the same issues with:
1) the screen turning off during a call (as it should when it detects your ear close to the phone), but it won’t turn back on no matter what you do, until the other person you have called hangs up – there’s no way to hang up the phone unless they hang up (or you pull the battery?).
2) The bluetooth seems pretty bad on many levels – when it works, it’s just poor quality, the audio always has at least a slight distortion in it… when I use BT headphones to listen to music – every other phone/tablet/pc I’ve used these headphones and headsets on have always (and still do) given me crystal clear sound… but on the W200S it’s got a slight distortion, so BT headphones to listen to music on this phone is a no go for me… it’s even worse if the GPS is enabled – to the point of completely unusable… and with the GPS disabled, the couple of cars I’ve tried connecting to have given very distorted audio when making calls (though only appear to affect my end of the call… the other person can hear me ok – though if you use GPS as well, then you won’t be able to understand them and they won’t be able to understand you).
Oh, and sort of a 3) I can’t get xposed framework to install without getting stuck in a boot loop :(
Does anyone have a W200S that doesn’t have these issues? ie. is it just that I have a faulty W200S? or does anyone have any workarounds/fixes?
Thanks.

Yes, it turned out to be the screen protector causing the problem for me – it was completely covering the sensor and affected it somehow (not sure why they use a protector that doesn’t have holes over the sensors in the top left of the phone??)… after I cut out part of it so that it no longer covered the sensor, then it worked just fine ;)
Of course before cutting up your screen protector, you could try recalibrating the proximity sensor – some have found that to fix the problem as well.
Also, since then, I’ve used the phone in the BMW and it’s now working fine with the bluetooth – as long as I don’t turn on the GPS – since the BMW has it’s own built in GPS it doesn’t really matter, but my main car doesn’t, so I’m still hoping for a fix for that… Bluetooth audio (for music) still sounds pretty bad – though normal wired headphones sound good – but someone on another forum said their bluetooth audio was fine, so I’m gonna try a few more things before I give up on it.
And apparently the reason xposed framework won’t install is because these newer 8-core thl phones are now running on much more modified versions of android than previously – apparently some of the core files are from Aliyun OS rather than Android – which is why it goes into a bootloop – however there’s a vanilla android firmware now available for it, which I haven’t tried yet, but hopefully will get some time in the next week or so – it’s supposed to work with xposed – I’m also interested to see if it fixes the GPS + bluetooth issues.
Cheers,
iFX

I’m on to my 2nd battery on my 10-month old W200s. Both have started to bulge.
My phone now dies even while browsing the app drawer at (supposedly) 70% battery level.
Even worse, the local distributor hasn’t got back to me after I placed an order for 2 extra batteries 3 months ago.
As soon as I get the batteries, I’m selling this phone.

my first battery had already bulged. using my 2nd battery already.hope this would last. not using it anymore for gaming. it overheats very fast. use only for browsing. it’s such a waste of money if they are not testing all the possible scenarios. specially for batteries. it’s the first accessory to be overused. where is the local distributor ? is it the one in ermita ? thanks ?

Yes, we’ve had quite a few reports of this with W200. I think just a bad quality battery from whoever THL contracted the battery.
There’s no solution but to buy a few batteries and use the phone until time to get a new phone. Phones with specs of W200 are available for like $60 or less now. Look for MT6580 Mobiles for similar power, but with real Android Lollipop
